During the ongoing war, the Palestinian sports community has suffered an enormous loss. More than 1,200 athletes, players and members of the sports community have been killed, leaving behind unfinished journeys, dreams, teams, families and memories.
The tournament was named “1000 Martyrs” in remembrance of the first thousand members of the Palestinian sports community who lost their lives during the war.
For us, stepping onto the pitch is therefore about more than competing for points or trophies. It is an opportunity to honor their memory and to remind the world of the athletes whose dreams and sporting careers were cut short.
Football is about life, hope and dreams.
They played for their dreams.
Today, we play in their memory.
May their memory live on.
